Conviction of Juan Orlando Hernández
Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández (2014–2022) was found guilty of drug trafficking and weapons charges by a US federal court. Sentenced to 45 years plus an $8 million fine. Prosecutors proved he trafficked 400+ tons of US-bound cocaine through Honduras between 2004 and 2022.
US Attorney General Garland stated Hernández “abused his position as President of Honduras to operate the country as a narco-state.” His brother Tony had been convicted in 2019 and sentenced to life.
Trump pardoned Hernández in November 2025.
